NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - You could call it a November hockey tradition, and that tradition has turned into raising money for cancer. It's called "Movember."
Movember's purpose is to raise awareness of men's health issues, particularly prostate and testicular cancers. During the month of November, Admirals players, coaches and staff will be growing out their mustaches in support of Movember.
So which Admirals is rocking the best mustache?
"I mean you really got to take care of it, feed it, water it, get it it's vitamins. You have to take it for walks. It's gotta get some fresh air," said Admirals forward Troy Bodie.
All jokes aside the reason behind this colorful facial hair is a serious matter. The team is helping raise money for testicular and prostate cancer. In fact one in six men are diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime.
"It's something that's very important and I am happy to raise awareness for the charity." Bodie.
After surveying the scenery at practice, Admirals forward Troy Bodie seems to have the look down to an art.
"I do by far, I'm not going to give it to anyone else" said Bodie.
"If I would have started any earlier, I'd probably be looking pretty good right now, but he got a pretty good head start and his is looking pretty good right now," said forward Kyle Palmieri.
Hockey fans there's still time for you to let your "Mo Grow." There will be a mustache competition at the Admirals home game on Wednesday, November 28, against the Hershey Bears.
