NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) - The race to the White House is in the final stretch and Governor Mitt Romney spent the Sunday before election day visiting battleground states, including Virginia.
Romney met with supporters in Newport News at the Smithfield Foods Flight Department.
People started lining up at 4 p.m. Romney was scheduled to speak in Newport News at 8:45 p. m., but his plane was delayed in Philadelphia and he finally arrived a little after 9:30 p.m.
Once Romney's plane touched down, he highlighted his plan to strengthen the economy and create jobs.
In an effort to appeal to independents and undecided voters, Romney pledged bi-partisanship on Capitol Hill.
"So on November 6 we come together for a better future. On November 7 we get to work," Romney told the crowd.
He also urged voters to encourage others to vote for him on Tuesday. Virginia is a battleground state and Romney said winning the Commonwealth could win him the White House on Election Day. He asked supporters to work the polls and continue campaigning.
"We know that you care about America, you care about the future, our children. We thank you and we ask you to stay with it all the way through Tuesday night," Romney said.
Sarah Bogenrief moved from California to North Carolina three months ago so she could vote for Romney.
"I'm willing to do what I can to make him my voice, to save what we want to save," Bogenrief said. "I think that if we don't elect Mitt Romney president, America will be lost."
According to an NBC/Wall Street Journal, President Obama and Romney are neck and neck in the final hours leading up to Tuesday and both men are expected to campaign until the final moment.
After speaking in Newport News, Romney headed to Florida for a campaign event.
