ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. (WAVY) - A mother in North Carolina is desperate to find her son.
"We just want him home," Morris' mother Dana Morris said. "We just want anybody who knows anything who can help us bring him back home."
25-year-old Jovan Morris was last seen on July 5 at the Woodstock II Apartments, where he was visiting a friend. Morris was supposed to pick his girlfriend up from work that day, but never showed up.
Morris' girlfriend, Dorothy Stallings, found his car parked at the Woodstock II Apartments, but found no sign of him.
Morris' mother told 10 On Your Side she believes his disappearance is connected with a shooting in Elizabeth City.
Two days before Morris went missing, his friend, Ricky Etheridge , was shot. Morris' mother said he took Etheridge to the hospital for treatment. Morris also spoke with police about the shooting.
"It was his friend that was shot," Morris' mother said. "He took him to the emergency and he saved his life. Then he was talked to by the police on fifth and the same evening he disappeared."
The men wanted in Etheridge's shooting, Arago Harrell and Christopher Harrell, turned themselves in. They are both being charged with attempted murder.
Morris' family said they believe someone did something to him because he spoke with police about the shooting. Morris' family held a prayer circle at the Elizabeth City Waterfront on Saturday to encourage people with information to come forward.
"We need some type of closure to know what happened because this is not him," Morris' mother said. "He would not have us this worried like this. There has to be some kind of foul play."
Elizabeth City police have spent well over 500 man hours scouring portions of Elizabeth City and Pasquotank County for Morris. The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigations is also assisting in the investigation.
If you know anything about the whereabouts of Jovan Lee Morris, contact the Elizabeth City Police Department at 1 (252) 335-4321 or the Elizabeth City Pasquotank County Crime Line at 1 (252) 335-5555.
