VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - Officers in Virginia Beach are investigating a shooting early Tuesday morning that took the life of a 35-year-old Chesapeake man.
The victim was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead. He has been identified as Ronald Jamall Green.
Grazia Moyers with the Virginia Beach Police Department said officers were dispatched to the area of South Witchduck Road near Mac Street for a report of a shooting. Dispatchers told WAVY.com the call went out at 5:41 a.m.
"Evidently, there was some type of party going on in one of the warehouses," said David Floyd, who owns a nearby business.
Police focused their investigation around a warehouse that sits off South Witchduck Road, behind a strip mall. The warehouse is divided into units for lease. Some appear to have people living in them, while others are used by well-known businesses.
Police collected evidence around units 83-87, which are not labeled, with the exception of unit 83, which has a decal that reads 'Susan G. Komen of Tidewater.' A spokesperson for the Susan G. Komen of Tidewater foundation told WAVY.com the foundation moved out of the space, but did not remove the sticker.
Nearby business owners said they are not sure who leases the space, but they have heard it was turned into a late night hangout.
"I had heard there was some kind of a club back here... a private club," said Tony Pirrone, who works nearby.
Officers were told two suspects fled the scene after the victim was shot, though there is no description available at this time.
Meanwhile, workers are happy to get back to business, after a scary morning.
"It is kind of a concern when you have someone shot near your place of business," said Floyd.
