VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - Officials say one woman was pulled from a trailer fire in Virginia Beach Thursday, and remained in the hospital overnight for smoke inhalation.
According to Amy Valdez with the Virginia Beach Fire Department, crews were dispatched to the 1200 block of Baker Road at approximately 2:30 p.m. The fire was located in the Colonial Run Trailer Park.
"I just pray for her that's all I can do," neighbor Andre Roberts told WAVY.com. "She's a very nice lady. She gets along with everybody."
Roberts was just down the street when his neighbor's home caught on fire Thursday afternoon.
"My brother noticed a dark cloud of smoke over his trailer and he said, 'That's kind of big for somebody's chimney,'" Roberts said. "We just saw the trailer engulfed in flames. I mean, you just see a red cherry ball and smoke coming out of every window door everything."
Roberts said neighbors pulled a woman from the flames.
"Somebody had pulled her out and laid her on the grass," Roberts said. "She was pretty much non-coherent. She was out of it. She was just laying there. She probably passed out. When the cop went over, I guess she started breathing."
The woman was rushed to Norfolk Sentara General Hospital. Officials said she is recovering from smoke inhalation and will make a full recovery.
Her home, however, was a total loss.
"You can see everything in their trailer is gone," Roberts said.
Neighbors hope to help the victim and her husband in any way possible. They say it's the least they can do.
"It hurts when you see somebody all the time go through something like that," Roberts said. "That's a big loss."
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
