VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - A Virginia Beach couple was sentenced for three 7-Eleven robberies in 2012.
Anothony Wayne Prather, 26, of Virginia Beach was sentenced Monday by Circuit Court Judge Frederick B. Lowe for three counts of robbery, three counts of use of a firearm and two counts of conspiracy. Prather was sentenced to 53 years in prison -- 28 years suspended and 25 years to serve.
However, he received five extra years in prison (totaling 30) because he committed the crimes while being on court-ordered "good behavior" for previous charges. Prather had been out of prison for those previous charges for only about four months before he was arrested for the new charges.
His previous charges included six counts of burglary, arson, attempted burglary, grand larceny, two counts of conspiracy and three counts of petit larceny.
Prather pled guilty to all of his latest charges on Jan. 7, which were connected to three armed robberies of 7-Eleven stores in Virginia Beach in June and July of 2012. Prather's getaway driver during the robberies was his girlfriend, Marlena Wielechowsky, who pled guilty to two counts of robbery and conspiracy.
Wielechowsky was sentenced to ten years in the Department of Corrections -- eight suspended and two to serve.
"Prather is yet another example of criminals who neither appreciate nor fear suspended jail time, nor short stints in prison," Commonwealth Attorney Harvey L. Bryant said in a release from his office. "This new sentence will guarantee our citizens and merchants will be protected from him for decades."
Wielechowsky and Prather are also due in court for robbery and robbery-related charges in Chesapeake.
