YORK COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) - A murder-suicide investigation began at a York County residence Thursday afternoon, according to the York-Poquoson County Sheriff's Office.
A little after 2 p.m. the Sheriff's Office received a call reporting shots were fired and two victims were lying in the driveway of a home in the 100 block of Runaway Lane, according to Lt. Dennis Ivey with the YPC Sheriff's Office.
When deputies and medics arrived, an adult male and female were pronounced dead. The victim has been identified as 74-year-old Mildred F. Baldwin, who lived at the home on Runaway Lane. The suspect has been identified as her son-in-law, 53-year-old Marvin J. Bowen.
Lt. Ivey said Bowen lived in Richmond, and investigators learned he may have been suffering from mental problems.
Ivey said it appeared that the male shot and killed the female and then shot himself. He said neighbors heard gunshots, and ran over to the home, where they found the bodies in the driveway.
The Sheriff's Office said they believe they know the identities of the suspect and victim, but will wait to release names until the Medical Examiner confirms.
