SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - A man was shot in his backyard after returning home from work Wednesday night.
According to a press release from the City of Suffolk, dispatchers received a call for a shooting in the 300 block of Hill Street in Downtown Suffolk at 11:16 p.m. Wednesday.
Police have identified the victim as Edward Wiggins, 50.
Wiggins was approached from the rear and shot as he stepped out of his car.
After the shooting, Wiggins went to a neighbor's house for assistance and was transported to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. According to a news release from the City of Suffolk, Wiggins underwent surgery Wednesday evening and is still in the hospital.
The suspect fled on foot. The shooting remains under investigation.
