SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - One person suffered minor burn injuries after a fire started in the kitchen of a home on Sprucewood Lane in Suffolk Friday night.
The adult suffered minor burns to their hands, feet and face. They were treated by medics at the scene.
Fire crews responded to the 2000 block of Sprucewood Lane in the Cedar Lake shores neighborhood after receiving reports of a structure fire around 10 p.m. Crews arrived on the scene to find light smoke coming from the home.
Firefighters were able to bring the fire under control in about 20 minutes, according to a press release from a fire department spokesman.
The house sustained fire damage in the kitchen area and smoke damage throughout the rest of the home.
Three adults and three children were displaced by the blaze and are being assisted by family members. The family's pet bird was also rescued from the flames by firefighters.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
