VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - According to the Virginia Beach SPCA, the puppies that a man tried to illegally give out in the parking lot of their building, will be available to adopt in a regional "Adopt-a-thon."
In May 2013, officials reported a man attempting to give away a litter of puppies at only 10-days old which is illegal in the state of Virginia. The staff at the Virginia Beach SPCA were able to convince the man to give the mother and her nine puppies to the clinic for care.
The Virginia Beach SPCA, Virginia Beach Animal Control, Norfolk SPCA, Norfolk Animal Care Center, Chesapeake Animal Care Center, Chesapeake Humane Society, Gloucester Mathews Humane Society, and Peninsula SPCA have announced they are hosting a regional adopt-a-thon, "Certified Used Pets" at the Priority Indoor Superstore located at 110 S. Independence Boulevard in Virginia Beach.
The "Certified Used Pets" Adopt-a-thon will take place Sunday, July 14 from 12 p.m. – 4 p.m. All prices will be reduced - $20 for cats/kittens and $50 dogs/puppies.
"We are so excited to have this opportunity to showcase the wonderful animals at local animal shelters that deserve a second chance to have a forever home," said Sharon Adams, Executive Director of the Virginia Beach SPCA.
The puppies received from the man outside of the Virginia Beach SPCA are now old enough for adoption and will be available at this event.
