NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - The NorVa's slogan "Nationally known, locally owned" was proved true Wednesday when Rolling Stone readers chose the club as the Best Musical Venue in the country.
The magazine's reader's choice awards called "Venues that Rock" polled a panel of dozens of musicians and entertainment professionals, including Miranda Lambert and Thomas Mars of Phoenix, to created a list of the 40 hottest venues across the U.S.
Then, readers chose their favorites from the list, and the NorVa was number one .
"The club with the hot tub" was the phrase that began the Rolling Stone mention of the the NorVa , a venue that opened in 2000 when owner A. William Reid transformed the 1920s movie theater from the then athletic club to a rock club.
The award for best venue included, clubs, big rooms and amphitheaters throughout the U.S.
