NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - Norfolk Police have arrested a man officers say stabbed an elderly couple Thursday.
Karen Parker-Chesson with the Norfolk Police Department said the victims Jesse Elbert Bishop, 37, is accused of stabbing with a knife are NOT his adoptive father and mother. Police originally released that they were.
Investigators say the crime occurred at a home on Wellington Road after the male victim refused to give Bishop his Social Security check. Bishop lived with the victims.
"The information I have is he just snapped," said neighbor Vanessa Rascoe.
After the refusal, Parker-Chesson said Bishop and the male victim began to fight, and when the female victim tried to intervene, she was stabbed.
Parker-Chesson said both victims suffered cuts to the throat. Police told WAVY.com the pair had significant injuries, but are expected to recover.
"[Bishop] had an addiction to drugs and alcohol," said Stacey Mood, a family friend. "I'm not really surprised."
Bishop was arrested around 12:15 a.m. Friday in the 1200 block of Sunset Drive after a Crime Line tip revealed his location. He is being held in Norfolk City Jail.
