NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - A bicycler was killed in a Norfolk hit-and-run vehicle incident Wednesday night.
Chris Amos with the Norfolk police confirmed that a man on a bike died after being struck by a vehicle at the intersection of E. Ocean View Avenue and Chesapeake Street around 9:40 p.m.
Responding medics pronounced the victim dead at the scene. The suspect fled the scene in the vehicle.
"Me and my husband were looking out over the water. Then we heard squealing, yelling and saw people running toward a man laying on the ground," said Nikia Moree', a woman who lives near the site of the crash.
Moree' told WAVY.com that there is a lot of foot traffic in that intersection of the crash at night because there are bars nearby. A few other bystanders told WAVY.com that there was another accident at the intersection within the last few weeks.
The suspect vehicle was described as being a small, red sedan with extensive front-end damage.
