NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) - A suspect is in police custody following a tactical situation in Newport News.
According to Lou Thurston with the Newport News Police Department, police received information that a shooting and robbery suspect was in a residence in the area of the 500 block of Adams Drive. The Tactical Operations unit was called to the scene.
Around 1:05 p.m. Sunday, the tactical situation was initiated after police failed to make contact with the suspect.
Police established a perimeter around the residence, and Thurston said the suspect was taken into custody just after 3 p.m.
Police have identified the suspect as 22-year-old Karlos Swarn. According to Thurston, Swarn was wanted in connection with a robbery on July 11, where the victim was robbed and shot.
Swarn is charged with malicious wounding, robbery, conspiracy to commit robbery, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and two counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
