MACHIPUNGO, Va. (WAVY) - 13 people were injured when a tour bus heading to Virginia Beach from New York crashed on the Eastern Shore early Saturday morning.
Around 6:00 a.m. the bus owned by Vision Tours, was traveling south on Route 13, Lankford Highway in Machipungo, when it ran off the road and struck a ditch, according to a press release from Virginia State Police.
Of the 55 people who on board the bus, 13 were taken to Shore Memorial Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
Police charged the driver of the bus, 59-year-old Jeffery Williams from New York, with failure to keep a vehicle on the roadway.
A spokeswoman for the Virginia State police says passengers on the bus were from New York, Pennsylvania, and Virginia Beach.
The crash remains under investigation.
