Safety is always a concern during races. This year, Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital will set up a tent hospital at 15th and Atlantic Avenue to serve the Rock 'n Roll Marathon. Previous years, the hospital treated dozens of patients with heat and hydration issues, fall injuries and even heart attacks. So, this year they decided to assemble disaster tent systems in order to take the hospital to the race site, according to Sentara spokesman Dale Gauding.
Medical services will be free of charge unless patients require admission to the main hospital, Gauding told WAVY.com
The race is in partnership with the 19th annual Verizon Wireless American Music Festival.
