NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - Police say a woman who stole a car in Norfolk Wednesday likely did not realize there were two children in the backseat.
Erica Howard spoke with WAVY.com Thursday and said she had briefly gone inside of a friend's house in the 6900 block of Bonnot Drive, leaving her two children, aged 6 and 7, inside of her car, which was still running.
"She went real fast and I told her to slow down," one of the kids told WAVY.com.
Police said at approximately 8:25 p.m., someone in the neighborhood noticed another woman getting into the car and driving off with it.
"I ran behind the car, screaming, 'My kids are in the car!'" Howard said.
A neighbor called police and followed the woman, who pulled over in the 6100 block of North Military Highway.
Police arrived and took 36-year-old Cyleta Baylor in custody. She has been charged with two counts of abduction and grand larceny.
The children were unharmed and have been returned to Howard, who will not face charges.
"Moving forward, I will definitely not do that again," Howard said.
