VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - A man will spend the next 35 years behind bars for killing his ex-girlfriend with a pair of shears.
Macie Pridgen with the Virginia Beach Commonwealth's Attorney's Office said James Thomas Miller was sentenced to 35 years behind bars with three years of supervision after release.
Miller pled guilty April 22 to the stabbing death of Irene Teague. Teague and her boyfriend returned to their home on Aug. 6 to find Miller sitting outside his neighboring apartment, drinking. Miller and Teague got into an argument when Miller told her wait because he ‘had something for her,' Pridgen said.
After obtaining a pair of shears, Miller punched Teague, kicked her and stabbed her multiple times. Teague died from stab wounds to the neck with blunt force head injuries contributing.
Miller fled the scene and threw the shears over a nearby bridge. He was later caught with the help of K-9 units.
Pridgen said Miller's past convictions include armed robbery, burglary and forgery.
