Candy-making season doesn't have to overwhelm you. If you want to make just one, perfectly pretty candy for that holiday party or to give as presents, pick Peppermint Bark.
This simple, three-ingredient sweet is a great afternoon project, fun for the kids and can add that extra bling to your holiday spread.
- 2 cups dark chocolate, chopped finely, or chocolate chips
- 2 cups white chocolate, chopped finely, or white chocolate chips
- 2 cups Starlight Mints or 15 candy canes
Prepare your candy first. Unwrap and place inside a plastic storage bag and bang with a rolling pin or a hammer until all the candy is crushed into small fragments.
Prepare a baking sheet with parchment and set aside.
Temper your chocolate, one at a time.
Follow the instructions on the back of the packaging, but usually you can microwave at 15-second intervals until you get the right consistency.
Pour the first layer of chocolate onto the sheet pan and smooth out evenly. Let cool and harden, or you can stick in the fridge for about 10 minutes to harden.
Repeat the process with the white chocolate.
Before you harden the top layer, sprinkle the crushed peppermint over it evenly; pressing gently to make sure the candy will set into the white chocolate when cooling.
Let harden completely – about 30 minutes.
Cut into 2x2 inch pieces or use cookie cutters for holiday shapes.
