VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - As thousands of visitors spent the Fourth of July relaxing at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront, lifeguards were on assignment on the busiest work day of the year.
"It's our Super Bowl," Virginia Beach Lifesaving Service's Tom Gill said. "It's our biggest day of the year."
As of early Thursday afternoon, Gill said two water rescues were made involving five to seven victims.
"We're busy, but this is what we train for," Gill said. "As we always stress, any day, any time, anyone."
