Weather-related cancellations

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) - As Hurricane Sandy approaches the east coast, some organizations are taking precautions by canceling weekend events in case of bad weather.

Below is the latest list of weather-related cancelations across the area:

Accomack County

NASA's Wallops Facility will be closed Monday, Oct. 29 except for pre-identified, essential personnel.

Chesapeake

The Ghost Train has been canceled for Saturday, Oct. 27.

TRICARE Prime Clinics are closed.

Currituck County

The Criminal Superior Administrative Court Session scheduled to begin on Monday, Oct. 29 has been canceled. It will be rescheduled.

All recycling centers will close Sunday at 5 p.m. and remain closed Monday, Oct. 29.

Knotts Island Ferry will make no runs Sunday.

Dare County

All ferry operations on the Hatteras Inlet route have been suspended due to high water over N.C.12 in Hatteras.

Emergency crews closed N.C. 12 near the Oregon Inlet Bridge due to sand and water on the roadway Sunday morning.

Hampton

A Shred-a-Thon event scheduled for Saturday at Langley Federal Credit Union on West Mercury Boulevard in Hampton has been canceled. No makeup date has been announced at this time.

A Night at the Museum tour of the Hampton History Museum has been canceled for Oct. 29 only. Oct. 30 and Oct. 31 are still on schedule.

All outpatient clinics at the Hampton VA Medical Center, Virginia Beach Community Based Outpatient Clinic and Albemarle Primary Outpatient Clinic have canceled all patient appointments on Monday, Oct. 29.

The Casemate Museum will remain closed until Tuesday, Oct. 30.

Trash pickup canceled Monday, Oct. 29.

Limited access to Langley Air Force Base to mission essential personnel.

Isle of Wight County

Road work along the James River Bridge has been canceled for the weekend of Oct. 26 through Oct. 28.

Isle of Wight County park facilities and all Convenience Center sites will be closed Sunday Oct. 28.

Isle of Wight County offices will be closed Monday, Oct. 29. Only essential personnel should report.

Newport News

Newport News solid waste collections for next week will be delayed one day. Monday's collection will be made Tuesday. Tuesday's collection on Wednesday. Wednesday's collection on Thursday. Thursday's collection on Friday. Residents are advised to put their garbage and recycling carts in a protected area and remove bulk debris from the curb.

The Mariners' Museum in Newport News will be closed Sunday, Oct. 28 and Monday, Oct. 29.

All libraries will be closed Oct. 28.

Amtrak service to Richmond has been canceled, as have various other trains along the East Coast. Click here for the latest service alerts from Amtrak .

Norfolk

According to Virginia Zoo officials, the zoo's "Zoo Boo" Family Fun Day scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 27 has been moved to Nov. 3 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The US Citizenship and Immigration Services office in Norfolk will be closed Monday, Oct. 29.

Norfolk trash collection will continue at 7 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 30.

The Fright Night portion of "Zoo Boo" was originally scheduled for Saturday night and has also been moved to Nov. 3 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Homearama in East Beach will close at 9 p.m. Friday. Anyone who has not been to the event is asked to go during operating hours Friday.

Norfolk Education Foundation is postponing the Superintendent's Community Exchange Breakfast scheduled for Monday, Oct. 29.

All Hampton Roads Transit tours of Naval Station Norfolk have been canceled Oct. 27 and Oct. 28.

Nauticus will be closed Sunday, Oct. 28.

Norfolk Public Schools will be closed Monday, Oct. 29.

City of Norfolk offices will be closed Monday, Oct. 29.

The Tide will run noon to 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 28.

The Virginia Zoo will be closed Monday, Oct. 29.

Posquotank County

Ditrict Criminal Court is canceled Monday, Oct. 29.

Portsmouth

Trash collection has been canceled for Monday, Oct. 29. It has been rescheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 31.

Naval Medical Center Portsmouth will only admit mission-essential personnel Monday, Oct. 29.

Suffolk

The Great Dismal Swamp Bus Tour has been canceled for Oct. 28. The next tour will be Nov. 4 at 9:30 a.m.

Cedar Hill Cemetery Walking Tour and the Legends of Main Street: A Suffolk Ghost Walk have been canceled for Oct. 27. The next tours will take place on Nov. 3.

Legends of Sleepy Hole has been canceled for Oct. 27.

Suffolk Visitor Center will close at 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 28.

Virginia Beach

The Virginia Beach Voter Registrar's Office, 2449 Princess Anne Rd., will be closed Monday, Oct. 29. No absentee voting will take place there, the courthouse fire station or DMV locations.

All Virginia Beach courts and clerks' offices will be closed Monday, Oct. 29.

Gov. Mitt Romney has canceled a rally at Farm Bureau Live in  Virginia Beach Sunday. The event will be rescheduled.

Vice President Joe Biden has canceled a rally at Landstown

Middle School Oct. 27.

TRICARE Prime Clinics are closed.

The SPCA has canceled its annual Walk for the Animals and Pupcake 5K run Sunday and rescheduled it for Nov. 11. Call 757-427-0070 for more information.

Statewide Crime Prevention from Oct. 28-31 has been canceled.

Virginia Beach Visitor Center on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel will be closed Sunday and Monday

The Visitor Center at First Landing State Park will be closed Sunday and may be closed Monday.

Regent University will be closed Monday, Oct. 29.

All Virginia Beach recreation centers, parks, public libraries will be closed Sunday, Oct. 28.

All Virginia Beach visitor information centers will be closed Sunday, Oct. 28.

Francis Land House, the Adam Thoroughgood House and Lynnhaven House will be closed Sunday, Oct. 28.

Sandler Center for the Performing Arts and the Virginia Aquarium and Marine Science Center will be closed Sunday, Oct. 28.

Art Institute of Virginia Beach closed Sunday, Oct. 28 and Monday, Oct. 29.

Virginia Beach Public Schools will be closed Monday, Oct. 29.

Virginia Wesleyan College will be closed Monday, Oct. 29.

Williamsburg

The brickyard and Great Hopes Plantation at Colonial Williamsburg are closed Sunday, Oct. 28.

Colonial Williamsburg will be closed Monday, Oct. 29.

York County

The Jamestowne and Yorktown Battlefield areas of Colonial Historical Park will be closed Sunday, Oct. 28 and Monday, Oct. 29. The shuttles will not operate either day.
