NORFOLK, Va (WAVY) - On Thursday morning, the Virginia National Guard fueled its fleet, and found everything soldiers needed to support the two basic missions of rescue and support.
Sgt. First Class Chris Robbins explained, "We have large trucks that can recover other vehicles and get into places where, you know, typically EMS services and police cars might not be able to go."
This is their fifth call-out this year. The others were for the Nor'easter and snow storms.
More soldiers showed up Thursday than were needed, canceling holiday weekend plans, because they care about helping. "People who work day to day in your community- you see them everyday, it's just when something like this happens we step up. We come in, and we're just here to help," said Lt. David Mummert.
The North Carolina guard is also activating soldiers to deploy to trouble spots if needed.
