VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - Virginia Beach's Labor Day weekend festivities are still on, despite the threat posed by Hurricane Earl.
City leaders and tourism officials decided Thursday to go ahead with a music-filled weekend featuring the Village People and Pat Benatar.
Officials said they believe the brunt of Earl's winds and rains will have passed by the Virginia Coast by the time Friday night's events are staged.
Earl has been downgraded to a Category 3 storm, but a hurricane watch and tropical storm warning have been posted for the coast in advance of the storm's swing through the area early Friday.
A Virginia Beach emergency services official said the city was watching Earl's track to see if it will be a mad dash or as normal as can be.
