VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - Local surfers and surf shops have collected food, water, clothes and money for Superstorm Sandy victims in the Northeast.
The shops, including Wave Riding Vehicles, 17th Street, Juice Box, Freedom and Surf and Adventure, collected enough items to fill four box trucks and a Billabong tour bus. The Billabong surf company agreed to help with travel expenses as well.
Ten volunteers will leave Virginia Beach with the items at 7 a.m. Monday. The caravan's first stop will be to deliver goods to residents on the Eastern Shore, said organizer Raven Lundy.
"I really appreciate the whole community helping us so much," Lundy said. " I am actually overwhelmed with all the support people have showed us."
Lundy said people donated items from as far away as the Outer Banks.
