CHINCOTEAGUE, Va. (WAVY) - C hincoteague Island on the Virginia Eastern Shore issued a mandatory shelter advisory Monday night.
The Director of Public Safety in Accomack County is advising all residents to go to area shelters.
There is massive flooding on Chincoteague Island. About 1,000 people are out of power in that area.
Sanford and Saxton are also expected to be hit hard with flooding. The National Guard, Virginia State Police and Guard boats are being dispatched to some area homes because of the severity of the situation.
The two available shelters are at Nandua Middle school and Arcadia Middle School.
