EASTERN SHORE, Va. (WAVY) - Gov. Bob McDonnell toured areas of Chincoteague devastated by Hurricane Sandy.
McDonnell met with local officials, emergency responders, volunteers and residents Wednesday. Chincoteague Island experienced massive flooding during the storm. Toppled trees also caused severe damage to homes and property.

McDonnell also addressed the situation at a news conference Tuesday, where he talked about the wraparound winds that caused the damage.
βIn southeast Virginia, northern Virginia and particularly the Eastern Shore, we actually had a pretty significant event last night with the wraparound winds coming out of the west and some significant flooding in Chincoteague, and State Police and others had some rescue operations [Tuesday] morning that ended pretty successfully,β McDonnell said.
McDonnell also took an aerial tour of Tangier Island on the way to Chincoteague.
