PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) - The Coast Guard is offering a heads up to all boat owners ahead of Hurricane Sandy landfall.
All boat owners should make sure their boats are secured before the storm hits.
If you have a smaller boat, Coast Guard recommends bringing it inland and securing it to a trailer. Make sure larger boats are also tied down and everything inside of the vessel is locked down.
"If you have life jackets or even life vests loose on board the vessel and it gets blown off, the Coast Guard is going to spend time searching for possible people in the water. All we see is a life jacket we're going to assume there's a person attached or lost from it ."
