NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) - Troopers say a 19-year-old woman has been charged with reckless driving after she lost control of her vehicle, causing a fatal crash on Interstate 64 Friday.

Sgt. Michelle Anaya with the Virginia State Police said the crash occurred around 5 a.m. in the westbound lanes of Interstate 64 just after Lee Hall.

According to Anaya, Anesha Daniel of Henrico lost control of her vehicle and ran off the roadway, striking a guardrail. Daniel got out of her vehicle and attempted to flag traffic down for help, and a 1999 Kenworth fully loaded tractor trailer could not stop in time. The tractor trailer struck Daniel's vehicle, lost control and struck another vehicle, pinning it against a guardrail.

Both the tractor trailer and the third vehicle, a Buick, burst into flames. The male driver of the Buick was killed. Troopers are in the process of notifying the victim's family of the crash and his identity has not been released.

Daniel was charged with reckless driving. Anaya said alcohol was not a factor in the crash.

Troopers were forced to close Interstate 64 in the area for several hours due to a large fuel spill. The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) detoured traffic around the accident scene.

A detour was in place at exit 247 at Yorktown Road. The detour took drivers down Yorktown Road, up Jefferson Avenue, which is Route 143, and then directed them back onto the interstate from 199, which is exit 242.

The roadway reopened around 11 a.m.
