HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) - A driver who didn’t want to stop for troopers while speeding crashed his vehicle, according to State Police.

Sgt. Michelle Anaya with the Virginia State Police said the crash occurred just after 5:30 a.m. on the onramp leading from Aberdeen Road to southbound Interstate 664.

The male driver, who has not been identified, was speeding and driving recklessly. Anaya said troopers were going to pull him over for the traffic violations, but he refused. At that time, the driver took the turn too fast and crashed.

There was no chase between the driver and troopers, Anaya added.

According to Anaya, the vehicle hit two yield signs. The driver was not injured.

Chopper 10 flew over the crash, where the vehicle was off the roadway into a wooded area. A portion of the ramp was blocked, though drivers were able to squeeze past the traffic cones.

No word yet if the driver faces additional charges.
