CHESAPEAKE, Va. (wavy) - It's been three years since the once proud Western Branch high school football team made the playoffs, but that looks like it's going to change this season.

New Western Branch head football coach Greg Gibson has a track record of turning teams around.

After success in California, Gibson led Norview last season to a winning record before taking over this season at Western Branch.

"I've always said, I may not be the smartest person in the room, but I will outwork just about anybody."

Gibson has passed that work ethic on to his players and so far its payed off for the Bruins as they remain a perfect 4 and 0 on the season.

This past weekend, the Bruins held previsously unbeaten Lakeland to minus 90 total yards on offense.

"We had a very special night, but I am proud of every facet of this team from offense, defense to special teams."

Senior running back Josh Marriner has 8 scholarship offers with his top three being Temple, UConn and Old Dominion.

It does not get any easier for the Bruins as their next 3 games are against Kings Fork, Grassfield and Oscar Smith. Each of those teams are undefeated in district play.

"Our guys know that this district is one of the toughest in the state and it all begins again this Friday night against Kings Fork."
