CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WAVY) - Only one other team in Virginia State High School League history has won four state titles in a row. Hampton did it from 1995 to 1998. Now Phoebus joins this short list.
Coach Stan Sexton said this win was sweeter than the other three. Perhaps because it was a such a hard fought battle.
The Phantoms defense played great forcing five South County turnovers in the 20 to 10 win, including an interception by senior Davon Robinson.
Senior quarterback Eric Enderson relied on 6'4" 225 pound target Ramond Deloatch, also a senior, for two touchdowns.
Coach Stan Sexton called the win a team effort.
Also at Scott Stadium in Charlottesville, Oscar Smith celebrated its second state title in four years.
The Tigers started out slowly, but finished strong in the 47 to 21 win over Centerville.
Senior Rahkeem Stallings had 9 tackles, 2 sacks and a forced fumble, which helped earn him his second state championship.
Hokies fans can look forward to seeing J.C. Coleman in a Tech uniform. The senior running back had three touchdowns in the win.
