NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - The Norfolk Tides named a new interim manager. Bobby Dickerson will replace Gary Allenson.
According to a Baltimore Orioles news release, the move was made after Allenson was named the Orioles interim third base coach Friday.
Dickerson has a career record of 525-462 as a minor league manager, with his most recent stint a 72-72 campaign for the Triple-A Iowa Cubs in 2009. He also served as a minor league coach and manager in the Orioles system from 1993-97.
As a player, the release states Dickerson was drafted in the 23rd round of the 1987 amateur draft by the New York Yankees and played seven seasons in the minor leagues with the Yankees and Orioles.
Allenson was 228-254 in three-plus seasons as Norfolk's manager and had compiled a 948-1013 mark in 16 years as a minor league skipper. He has previously served on the major league coaching staffs of the Milwaukee Brewers (2000-02) and Boston Red Sox (1992-94).
