LONDON (WAVY) - Virginia Beach golden girl Gabby Douglas says she is planning a trip home.

During an interview with NBC's Al Michaels Friday, she said, "Yeah. I'm going to visit my hometown Virginia Beach first and give a little taste of what I missed out on and then I'm going to go back to Iowa to my second home and I'm just so excited to go back home and to the States where everyone is going to, you know, welcome me. So, it's going to be very exciting."

Douglas won two gold medals in the 2012 London Olympics; one for the women's team gymnastics performance, and the other in the all-around event.

Douglas got her start at Excalibur gym in Virginia Beach, before leaving to train with coach Liang Chow in Iowa.

Marc Davis with the City of Virginia Beach says a celebration in Douglas' honor is in the works. Details have not been announced. He told WAVY.com, "Everyone in Virginia Beach is excited to hear Gabby is coming home soon. She’s an inspiration, that’s for sure. We’re working on an appropriate way to recognize her. How and when that will be, we don’t know yet. Obviously we have to work around her schedule."
