NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - The Norfolk Tides won their their 51st game of the year Monday night, overpowering Rochester 11-4.
Last season, the Tides didn't win their 50th game until August 23. Norfolk is four games over 500, after 131 games.
The Orioles have been very good to the Tides, sending them outstanding major league pitchers for a variety of reasons. Monday, Orioles's opening day pitcher Jake Arrieta made his season debut at Harbor Park. Arrieta gave up a home run in the first inning.
"We do have some from veterans, but we've got a lot of young guys as well, and that means we have a lot of talent coming through the system," TIdes manager Ron Johnson said. "At the same time, we are doing a nice job in the big leagues and we are fighting for a playoff spot."
