NORFOLK, Va (WAVY) - National signing day is always a big day for college coaches, high school football players around the nation and their parents.
At Old Dominion, where Coach Bobby Wilder begins to build a Division 1-A program, 34 players were signed, six of whom are from Hampton Roads.
Wilder's record-breaking offense made it easy to land several highly recruited wide receivers, running backs and a new young quarterback from Texas.
Oscar Smith players Kanyia Anderson and Melvin Vaughn, Atavius Matthews, and Richie Station from Phoebus, along with Hampton safety Daquin Moore hope to make Old Dominion's defense better.
Moving up to Conference USA was a big plus.
"The step up actually helped me because now I can go play big time football in my own area," said Daquin Moore, who signed with Old Dominion.
