NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - A big day for high school basketball this past weekend. The semi-finals for the AAA Eastern Region Tournament were held. On the line - a trip to the state tournament.
Great Bridge beat Hampton 67-60 to advance to Monday's region final and, more importantly, Great Bridge earned a state title berth for the first time since 1958.
Kecoughtan rallied from a first half deficit to defeat King's Fork 58-48 to advance to the region finals where the Warriors will take on Great Bridge.
Princess Anne Head Coach Darnell Dozier has seen a lot of talented basketball players come through the program during his tenure, and this year hasn't been any different. PA went up against Maury in its first semi-final girls game at Scope and PA earned their sixth straight trip to the state tournament.
In the the later girls game, Lake Taylor and Woodside, LT knocked off the defending region champions 52-51 to move on to the region championship, and of course that automatic berth in state. Coach Saundra Sawyer's team remains undefeated after the win.
