NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - The Eastern Region boys and girls soccer championships kicked off this afternoon and we begin with the boys where there is no clear cut favorite this year.
Boys Soccer:
Beach district champion First Colonial played Menchville from the Peninsula district. First Colonial's Brooks Nopper started things off he avoided two Monarch defenders, took the ball to from endline to endline and provides a perfect pass to captain Brian Davidson for the score. First Colonial advanced for the 3-0 win.
Granby beats Hickory 4-1.
Kempsville eliminates Kecoughtan 4-1.
Grassfield 2-1 over Maury. Corey Cullop had game winner.
Girls Soccer:
The girls Eastern Region Tournament is at the Powhatan Sports Complex.
Great Bridge in jumped out to the early 1-0 lead and threatened to add to it, but Lauren Seffen's shot is stopped just outside the goal line. Moments later, Maury on the attack and freshman Darby Moore showed everyone why she was the Eastern Region Player of the Year. She tied the game at 1. Great Bridge outscored Maury 5-4 in penalty kicks after four scoreless overtimes after 1-1 tie.

Girls Softball:
Sidney Harless the freshman from Great Bridge pitched a great game for the wildcats. Harless had 10 strikeouts in her one hitter. The final Great Bridge 4, Kecoughtan 0.
