NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - WAVY.com has learned ODU's Assistant Defensive Coordinator Keita Malloy will not be returning for the Monarchs' 2013-2014 football season.
Division 1-AA leading offense had all the right tools to take their to team a championship. It was supposed to the week that Head Coach Bobby Wilder and his team were getting ready for the defending FCS champions - North Dakota State University.
Instead, following the loss, Malloy will not be returning next season.
Malloy been on Coach Wilder's staff since the start of the program. This season, he ran the secondary and prior to 201,1 he was in charge of the wide receivers.
The Monarchs, on average, gave up 37 points a game this season and that number increased in the playoffs. A number that won't cut it as they make the move to FBS status.
With ACC teams on their schedule next season, the Monarchs' defense is going to need to get up to speed.
Last year, Wilder didn't retain his defensive coordinator Andy Rondeau.
Coach Wilder was not available for comment because he was on the road for recruitment.
