UPPERVILLE, Va. (AP) - Authorities are awaiting autopsy results to confirm whether a body found in an Upperville house fire is that of a Winchester Star reporter.
The victim has been tentatively identified as 48-year-old Star reporter Sarah L. Greenhalgh. The newspaper reports (http://bit.ly/MfdsHi) that Fauquier County sheriff's deputies are calling Monday's fire "suspicious."
The paper says Greenhalgh did not report to work Monday or respond to repeated calls. Greenhalgh covered Frederick County government for The Star.
An autopsy will be performed Monday to confirm the identity and determine a cause of death.
Sheriff's Lt. James Hartman called it a criminal investigation, but he would not say what evidence led investigators to suspect that the fire was not accidental.
The fire was spotted at about 8 a.m. Monday by an off-duty firefighter.
