RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Retired U.S. Army colonel and former Green Beret Chris Perkins has won the Republican nomination for a seat in Congress from northern Virginia's 11th District.
In a contest between little-known candidates making their first bid for a U.S. House seat, Perkins won nearly 63 percent of the vote Tuesday over Ken L. Vaughn, a traffic engineer and Christian conservative.
The winner faces Democratic Congressman Gerry Connolly, who was unchallenged for his party's nomination.
Connolly is seeking his third term in the House.
