WAVERLY, Va. (WAVY) - State police are investigating an officer-involved shooting that stemmed from a domestic dispute in Waverly early Thursday morning.
According to Virginia State Police, the town of Waverly Police and a Sussex County Sheriff's Deputy responded to a domestic dispute at 1:30 a.m. in the 100 block of New Street in Waverly.
When police arrived they say they attempted to make a man into custody and he refused. The man was shot by a Waverly officer and taken to Southside Regional Medical Center then the VCU Medical Center in Richmond where he was still being treated as of Thursday afternoon.
During the struggle, the deputy was injured and is suffering from serious but non-life threatening injuries.
Virginia State Police are investigating the incident.
