New Kent cites emergency, offers help

NEW KENT, Va. (WAVY) - After a recent storm, New Kent declared a local state of emergency on July 3, 2012 and has provided resources and support for its citizens.
A cooling station will open at Fire Station #1 located at 3415 Courthouse Road.
Anyone who may need shelter can call the Emergency Operation Center at 804-966-9677. The New Kent High School shelter is closed, but on standby if its needed.
Potable water will be available at fire hydrants at the rear of the Food Lion in Providence Forge, the Food Lion on Route 60 in Bottoms Bridge and the New Kent Visitors and Commerce Center on Vineyards Parkway. Citizens are asked to bring their own water containers.
