VIRGINIA (WAVY) - Virginia's First Lady Maureen McDonnell proclaimed March 7-13 Girl Scout Week. She made the announcement Thursday from the steps of the Executive Mansion.

Twenty-five Girl Scouts from all over Virginia were on hand to present the First Lady with Girl Scout cookies, as well as other national symbols of leadership.

Girl Scouts of the USA is celebrating its 98th year and helps build girls of courage, confidence and character who make the world a better place.

As a Girl Scout, girls discover their values, connect with other girls and take action through community service projects.

While the values and the mission has stayed the same, Girl Scouting has adjusted to the times in order to meet the needs of today's girls.

Partnering with committed adult volunteers, girls develop qualities that will serve them all their lives.
