CAIRO (CNN) - The world largest chandelier was installed inside the dome of Hassan Al-Sharbatly Mosque in Cairo, Egypt. The chandelier set a new Guinness World Record for the largest chandelier.
It is 17.7 m high, 12.5 m wide, with a diameter of 17.6 m, more than double the diameter of the previously chandelier registered in the Guinness World Record book.
The chandelier of Hassan Hassan Al-Sharbatly Mosque weighs about three tons with a huge number of bulbs in addition to the latest line of LED bulbs. The six story chandelier is made of 24 carats of gold-plated brass to paint about 700 m² of total plated area.
It was designed and made by Kandil Egypt Company.
The design, finish and installation of the world largest chandelier took at least 90 engineers, technicians who worked hard for four months. Working hours collectively were 17,000 hours.
It is expected to be included in the 2011 edition of Guinness World Records.
