MILWAUKEE (AP) — A 75-year-old Milwaukee man accused of shooting and killing his teenage neighbor over a suspected burglary is being held on cash bond of $300,000.
Online court records show that John Henry Spooner made an initial appearance in court Saturday morning. Spooner is charged with first-degree intentional homicide including the use of a dangerous weapon.
Prosecutors say Spooner shot 13-year-old Darius Simmons on Thursday and then waited for police to arrive and arrest him.
The criminal complaint says the boy's mother witnessed the shooting. She told investigators she heard Spooner tell her son he "wanted his stuff back." When Darius denied having Spooner's property, prosecutors say Spooner shot him in the chest.
Spooner was represented by public defender John C. Moore, who did not immediately return a message Saturday.
