NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) - WAVY.com has learned President Barack Obama will be visiting Newport News Shipbuilding Tuesday.
President Obama’s visit comes on the heels of Sen. Tim Kaine’s (D-Va.) visit to the shipyard on Feb. 19. Drastic cuts to several federal programs including the military will go into effect if Congress cannot come to an agreement on the budget by March 1.
The White House says the president will highlight the devastating impact the sequester will have on jobs and middle class families during his visit.
Wednesday, 1,600 BAE Systems employees in Norfolk received WARN notices ahead of the sequester.
