HATTERAS ISLAND, N.C. (WAVY) - Officials say one lane of NC 12 is scheduled to open Saturday, Nov. 10 to allow for vehicles with four-wheel drive to access Hatteras Island.
According to Dorothy Killingsworth with Dare County, the lane of NC 12 and Bonner Bridge will only be open during daytime hours. Only vehicles with four-wheel drive will be allowed to utilize the lane as there will gravel or sand across the road.
Driving will be banned for all vehicles between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. to ensure overnight safety, according to Killingsworth. She says this is also pending weather and safety.
NC 12 washed out and buckled during Hurricane Sandy late last month.
