Gay marriage supporters to march in NC

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - Occupy Raleigh is joining another citizen initiative to protest North Carolina's constitutional amendment defining marriage solely as a union between a man and a woman.

Members of Occupy Raleigh and 14th Amendment Equality Projects will march Monday evening in Raleigh, beginning in Nash Square. Occupy Raleigh's General Assembly passed a resolution against the amendment in February.

The citizen initiative 14th Amendment Equality Projects plans to host a community outreach march on the 14th of every month. The marches will go through neighborhoods because the group wants to engage citizens. Among other things, the 14th amendment to the U.S. Constitution requires each state to provide equal protection under the law to all people within its jurisdiction.

North Carolina voters overwhelmingly approved the amendment last week, with 61 percent supporting it.
