ISLE OF WIGHT, Va. (WAVY) - A Carrsville woman faces felony child endangerment charges after police say she was found intoxicated while pushing her 7-month-old baby in a stroller on a major roadway Monday.
The Isle of Wight Sheriff's office received reports of a woman walking in the roadway at the intersection of Walters Highway and Joyners Bridge Road and causing a traffic hazard around 12:40 p.m.
According to Kristin Wilda with Isle of Wight County, a deputy responded and found 23-year-old Brooke Herrin walking in a travel lane on Walters Highway. Herrin was said to have been unsteady on her feet and was pushing a 7-month-old baby in a stroller.
The child was found wearing only a sleeper and was cold to the touch and crying, Wilda said.
Herrin was arrested for being intoxicated in public, reckless disregard for child's life and possession of a schedule one narcotic after deputies found suspected heroin in her possession.
Wilda said Social Services was notified and the infant was placed in the care of one of Herrin's relatives as directed by the agency.
Herrin is being held at Western Tidewater Regional Jail on no bond.
