NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - Volunteers gathered at a local church Sunday to pack 10,000 meals for the needy, in a fast, fun-filled event to help with hunger relief.
Members of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Norfolk held the assembly-line, meal-packaging event to prepare dehydrated, high-protein and nutritious meals for individuals and families assisted by Stop Hunger Now.
The event was part of St. Andrew's Lenten focus on addressing hunger in the community and throughout the world. Excitement and enthusiasm were high as parishioners, friends and neighbors cheered when a gong sounded for every 1,000 meals packed.
Sunday marked the church's 2nd-annual Stop Hunger Now meal preparation. Click here for a special photo essay put together by WAVY.com photojournalist Greg Gadberry.
